A feeling lurks that the final day of the Delhi-NCR Open could be Angad Cheema’s.
The signs are there. One is his getting better at the Noida Golf Course, the scores say so, 72, 68, 66; the other is the momentum from the top-5 the week before in Chandigarh.

The climb of 12 spots on Day 3 to rest five behind the leaders at sole fourth (10-under 206) could well be the launch pad for the final assault at the crystal ware. The claim is the show, especially on the opening two days, isn’t a correct picture of the ground reality. “I played much better,” says Angad.

But the steady rise doesn’t mean Angad will get ahead of himself, especially with the stat lurking somewhere that his only win on the Professional Golf Tour of India came in December 2013. It will be living in the moment and with an ear to the ground. The conditions are neither tough nor easy, so “there is all to play for tomorrow”.

A good start is obviously the aim, but without lowering guard. As for the lead, that is a number for Angad which could evaporate if the putter gets hot. Should that happen, the numbers game will decided the final stretch. But even in that crunch situation Angad will strive for what he is trying to perfect — seeing it through with a unruffled mind.
