Billy Horschel works up commanding lead at Memorial Tournament

Billy Horschel (1st/-13) recorded a field-best 7-under 65 and marked his second consecutive bogey-free round at the Memorial Tournament.

The last player to record back-to-back rounds without a bogey at the Memorial was Byeong Hun An/2018/R2, R3.

The five-stroke lead matches the largest 54-hole lead/co-lead in an individual strokeplay event on PGA TOUR this season: Daniel Berger/The Honda Classic.

The last player to lead by five or more strokes through 54 holes and failed to convert to victory on TOUR was Daniel Berger/2022 Honda Classic.

Horschel’s lone bogey through 54 holes came at the par-4 first hole in Round ne (started on No. 10).

He holds the 54-hole lead/co-lead for the fifth time on TOUR; 2-for-4 to date converting to victory (Won/2014 BMW Championship, Won/2014 TOUR Championship).

Horschel has four top-10s in 14 starts this season: T6/WM Phoenix Open, T2/Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, T9/WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, 2nd/Zurich Classic of New Orleans with partner Sam Burns.

Aaron Wise (T2/-8) seeks his second PGA TOUR victory in his 117th start (2018 AT&T Byron Nelson).

Second-round leader Cameron Smith (T2/-8) fell five behind the leader following an even par 72. With six starts at the Memorial Tournament, marks his most career starts in a tournament (non-Major) without a top-10 finish.

Denny McCarthy (T7/-6) seeks his first PGA TOUR title in his 128th start; will become the eighth player to pick up his first PGA TOUR victory at the Memorial Tournament, joining Keith Fergus (1981), Kenny Perry (1991), Tom Lehman (1994), Justin Rose (2010), Hideki Matsuyama (2014), David Lingmerth (2015), William McGirt (2016).

Defending champion and two-time Memorial Tournament winner (2019, 2021) Patrick Cantlay (T7/-6) seeks to join Tiger Woods (1999-2001) as the only players to win the Memorial Tournament in consecutive years.

Last two winners on TOUR begin the final round seven strokes back (Justin Thomas/PGA Championship, Sam Burns/Charles Schwab Challenge); players currently seven strokes off the lead.

Starting the day T2, Korea’s K.H. Lee opened his third round with three successive bogeys to shoot a 3-over 75 and drop back to 4-under and T15, nine shots back of the new leader. His card included a total of eight bogeys, one eagle on the par-5, 11th hole and three birdies.
