Standing at the tee box of the Jammu Tawi Golf Course for the J&K Open, the layout was distinctly familiar to Arjun Prasad.
Among the golf courses he played while crisscrossing England in June, the Alwoodley Golf Club comes closest to Arjun’s competition venue this week, where he is tied for the lead after Day 1.

Situated in Leeds, which was his base as he tried to step up with coach Laurence Brotheridge, teeing off for the Open qualifier here and practice at Royal Liverpool and Royal Norwich have left Arjun a lot more aware and with the ability to trust himself in conditions that aren’t common in India.

Even on a calm day, the wind is up, at least 30kmph, coupled with intermittent rain and shine. And of course, the punishing rough on both sides of the fairways. While getting adept at quick change gear as per the weather, Arjun also got better at managing himself on the golf course.
He would like to believe that courtesy the exposure trip and testing himself in unfriendly settings, the benefits are showing up after the Professional Golf Tour of India resumed last month.
