Sahith Theegala surges as Phoenix Open off to another turbulent start

The opening round of the WM Phoenix Open has been suspended due to weather and/or darkness the last three years.

Making his third start at the WM Phoenix Open (T3/2022, T39/2023), Sahith Theegala (1st/-6) held the second and third-round lead at the event in 2022 before finishing one stroke shy of joining Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Cantlay in a playoff.

Has one win (2023 Fortinet Championship) in 80 prior PGA TOUR starts.

Making his WM Phoenix Open debut, Arizona State graduate Kevin Yu (T8/-2) is currently No. 4 in the Aon Swing 5 standings and not yet qualified for next week’s Genesis Invitational.

The top five players not otherwise exempt who earn the most FedExCup points during the Sony Open in Hawaii, The American Express, Farmers Insurance Open and WM Phoenix
Open will qualify for The Genesis Invitational.

Lucas Glover withdrew prior to the start of the first round and was replaced by Ryo Hisatsune (2-over 73).

Following a first-round 6-over 77, Carl Yuan withdrew with a neck injury.
