Spieth in line for history at Charles Schwab Challenge

Should Jordan Spieth win the Charles Schwab Challenge on Sunday, he would replace Ben Hogan as the youngest to win his second title here. Hogan had accomplished the feat ta 34 years.

Spieth, in his 208th PGA Tour start at 27 years, 10 months, 3 days, equalled his low 54-hole score on the PGA Tour after Round 3. He holds the third-round lead/co-lead for the 20th time, including his fourth of the season (tied with Sam Burns for most of the season). At 15-under 195, Spieth leads Jason Kokrak by one and four shots over Sergio Garcia.

Not just Spieth, Kokrak and Garcia are vying to become the third multiple-time winner of the season. Twenty years after winning the Charles Schwab Challenge for the first of his 11 PGA Tour wins, Garcia is in search of his second win at Colonial Country Club.

A win this week could have Spieth take the No. 1 spot in the FedExCup. Seeking his 13th title and second of the season (Valero Texas Open); he would join Bryson DeChambeau and Stewart Cink as multiple winners this season.

The 2016 Charles Schwab Challenge champion would become the event’s 13th multiple-time winner, and the second event he has won twice (2013, 2015 John Deere Classic).

Spieth played the first 40 holes this week without a bogey until the par-4 fifth hole in the third round.

At 14-under 196, Kokrak posted his low 54-hole score on Tour (198/2019 Wyndham Championship/T6). He leads the field in strokes gained: Tee to Green (+9.590) and driving distance (322.6 yards).

He is seeking his second Tour win (2020 The CJ Cup @ SHADOW CREEK) in his 249th start at the age of 36 years, 7 days, ad would join Bryson DeChambeau and Stewart Cink as multiple winners this season.

Kokrak’s finished T3 in 2020 for his best finish in six appearances at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
