Adrien Saddier set the clubhouse target at 13 under par on the second day of the weather-affected Omega European Masters after firing rounds of 62 and 65 on a marathon day in the Swiss mountains.

The race to catch up following Thursday’s lengthy fog delays saw Frenchman Saddier play 36 holes on Friday, having been unable to start his first round on day one.

After carding an eagle and six birdies in a flawless first round in the morning, Saddier returned to the course to add a 65 that contained six birdies and a single bogey.

With many groups still yet to begin their second rounds and many with holes to complete on Saturday, there is plenty of time for Saddier to be overtaken at the top before we reach the halfway stage of the tournament.

Defending champion Matt Wallace was Saddier’s nearest challenger one shot behind after following up his opening 65 with a second-round 63 to reach 12 under.

Wallace’s fellow Englishman Jordan Smith and South African Thriston Lawrence shared third place on 11 under after two rounds.

Frenchman Mike Lorenzo-Vera brought down the curtain on his professional career in his 285th DP World Tour start, carding a second-round 75 at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club. A popular figure among players, staff and fans alike, the 40-year-old had quietly announced his retirement in April, choosing the Swiss mountains as the setting for his farewell tournament.

Player Quotes

Adrien Saddier: I’m pretty happy. It was a long day, to be honest. I got a good start this morning – the momentum was good on the first nine and then I just kept holing the putts.

I really love this course and this place, I cherish it a lot. I’ve been good with the altitude as it could be a problem here but it has been good. It was a good day and we like this kind of day. It was just nice to finish with a birdie.

Matt Wallace: I had three great nines. I would put it that way. The first nine this morning wasn’t very good but I managed to get it round and then I found something on the back nine. I played really nicely this afternoon.

I was fine, Jamie did a great job. It’s one of those days where you can really lose concentration over some shots, I felt like I didn’t do that, and the reason is that I had a really good tempo sticking to that thought process which really helped.

I said to myself a few times out there today that I’m the defending champion so let’s try to keep it that way.

Jordan Smith: Overall, really happy with how I played over the two rounds and how today has gone.

We have had quite a lot of close calls this year and if we just keep putting ourselves in those positions it’s eventually going to happen, so feeling good going into tomorrow and then Sunday.
