Indian Premier League’s concluding part has received a big boost as Australian cricketers availability has been confirmed. Albeit, the decision from Cricket Australia comes at the cost of the three-match One Day International series between India and Afghanistan, which were to be played in India.
Cricket Australia has confirmed that the required no objection certificates will be issues to the Aussie cricketers to participate in the IPL. “No objection certificates will be granted to Australian players wishing to take part in the remaining upcoming Indian Premier League matches to be played in the UAE,” CA has confirmed.
The IPL 2021 was suspended indefinitely following the outbreak of the second wave of the Covid pandemic. A number of players, support staff, grounds men and team officials were reported positive during the course of the league. The league will now be concluded in the UAE. The remaining 30 matches will take place from September 19 to October 15 across three venues in the UAE – Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has been able to convince for release of the players even as the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 will commence shortly after the IPL. The players participating in the cash rich Indian professional league will left with little time to join their team’s training for the World Cup.
Australia’s scheduled one-day international series against Afghanistan in India has been postponed, the cricket boards of the competing countries said on Sunday, leaving players free to fulfil their Indian Premier League commitments.
Players’ availability would have become questionable had CA and the Afghanistan Cricket Board not agree to defer their limited overs’ series.
“The Afghanistan Cricket Board and Cricket Australia agreed to postpone the tour given the complexities of travel, quarantine periods and a finding a suitable location for the matches given the relocation of the T20 World Cup to the UAE,” the boards said in a statement.
“With the World Cup relocated from India to the UAE, the ACB will continue to explore the possibility of hosting a proposed T20 tri-series involving Australia and the West Indies.”
Top IPL players from Australia like Steven Smith and David Warner will now be free to join the concluding part of the IPL. However, fast bowler Pat Cummins has opted out of the remainder of the IPL as he preferred to be with the family for the birth of his first child.
