Scott Vincent didn’t have to wait another month for his second victory on the Japan Golf Tour. There were only two tournaments in between his first and second victory at the ANA Open on Sunday.

Scott started out T3 and three shots behind the leader. But he caught up easily with four birdies at the start. On the 9th, he holed a 6-metre putt for eagle to take the outright lead and also gave himself a three-stroke cushion.

A fade hitter, Scott had to face a few challenges though. “A strong wind was blowing from the left at the tee box on 9th. It was a difficult task, but I aimed my shot to the left and my strategy was a success,” he said.

The gusty conditions led to many stumbling, and at one point Scott had a five-shot lead.
“I usually don’t look at the leaderboard, but on the 16th I found I had a big margin. The glance was accidental and put me under pressure. I told myself to play steady by staying on the fairways and getting the ball on the greens.”
Scott has shot up the Money Rankings to 8th, and with this year’s PGA Tour and JGTO co-sanctioned ZOZO Championship (scheduled in October) back in Japan, Scott’s ZOZO Ranking is up to 2nd.

“I really want to earn the ticket to the ZOZO Championship. I also want to push up my world rankings too and get closer to playing the PGA Tour, which is my ultimate dream,” he said.

During the summer break, Scott went to Colorado to get vaccinated. “Going back and forth put us under two weeks of restriction and that was troublesome. I intend to stay in Japan until the end of the year, but if (wife and caddie) Kelsey wants to go home, I must grant her wish, because I cannot not do anything without her.”

Kelsey seemed happy with one of the winner’s prizes being a Bulgari bag. On their 1st victory at the Sansan KBC Augusta, they had spicy noodles for a power meal. On Saturday, it was sushi. The Sunday night celebrations were with “Genghis Khan”, a Mongolian-style mutton BBQ which is a delicacy in the Hokkaido Prefecture.
