Adam Scott’s status in BMW Championship a revelation

Adam Scott (1st/-18) holds the 36-hole lead/co-lead for the 17th time on the PGA TOUR (6-for-16 to date converting to victory) at the BMW Championship.

First 36-hole lead/co-lead since the 2019 Masters Tournament (finished T18).

First lead/co-lead after any round since the 2020 Genesis Invitational (co-led after the third round and went on to win).

Has 95 sub-70 scores in the FedExCup Playoffs, the second-most of any player (most: 98, Dustin Johnson).

Has 19 top-10s in the FedExCup Playoffs, second-most of any player (most: 23, Dustin Johnson).

One of two players to have qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs in each of the 16 seasons of the FedExCup era, along with Matt Kuchar.

Scott finished T5 at last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, moving from No. 77 to No. 45 in the FedExCup; was one of four players to enter the week outside the top 70 and go on to qualify for the BMW Championship, along with Wyndham Clark, Lucas Glover and Andrew Putnam.

Has qualified for the TOUR Championship eight times in the FedExCup era (2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2019). Best result in the FedExCup: 4th (2013, 2016).

He is a 14-time PGA TOUR winner, including the 2013 Masters Tournament; most recent victory came at the 2020 Genesis Invitational.

At age 42, would be the oldest PGA TOUR winner since Phil Mickelson at the 2021 PGA Championship (50); has not won on TOUR since turning 40.

Scottie Scheffler (T2/-7) has his fourth 36-hole position of T2 or better this season; went on to win one of the previous three (2nd/World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba/finished 4th, 1st/Masters Tournament/Won, T1/Charles Schwab Challenge/P2).

He has four wins this season (WM Phoenix Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, Masters Tournament).

He fell to No. 2 in the FedExCup standings after last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, snapping a streak of 23 consecutive weeks as FedExCup leader.

One player has won the Masters and the FedExCup in the same season: Jordan Spieth, 2014-15 season.

2015 FedExCup champion Spieth (T2/-7), who won the RBC Heritage in April, has won multiple titles in a season three times in his PGA TOUR career but has not since 2016-17 (5/2014-15, 2/2015-16, 3/2016-17).

Rookie Cameron Young (T2/-7), at No. 17, is the highest-ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking without a win on TOUR.
