Career-best six consecutive birdies power Cam Tringale at Scottish Open

Cameron Tringale opened the Genesis Scottish Open with a 9-under 61, the lowest score of his PGA TOUR career (1,058th round on TOUR).

He holds his fourth first-round lead/co-lead on TOUR (0-for-3 to date).

World No. 1 and FedExCup leader Scottie Scheffler opened with a 3-over 73.

2021 Genesis Scottish Open champion Min Woo Lee posted a 7-over 77.

The top three players not otherwise exempt who finish in the top 10 this week gain entry into The Open Championship.

As part of the Strategic Alliance between the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour, the Genesis Scottish Open is co-sanctioned by the two tours for the first time.

Tringale’s round included a career-best six consecutive birdies (Nos. 10-15). His previous-best was five in a row (four times).

He tied his personal-best mark with nine birdies in a round (2022 The American Express/R2).

He holds a three-stroke lead over Gary Woodland; and most recently finished T6 at the 2017 Barbasol Championship).

This marked the eighth opening-round score of 61 or better on TOUR this season.

Tringale has the most starts (332) without a win of any player on TOUR since 2009 (Ricky Barnes is second on the list with 306).

Finished T53 in his only other start at the Genesis Scottish Open (2015)

With a 64, 2019 U.S. Open champion Woodland equalled his best opening-round score on TOUR (fifth instance in 313 starts).

Jordan Spieth carded an opening-round 68 with five consecutive birdies on Nos. 13-17, one shy of a career-best six birdies in a row in round one of the 2020 RBC Heritage.

A week prior to his title defence at The Open Championship, Collin Morikawa posted a 1-over 71.
