Young holds his third first-round lead/co-lead of the season, tied with McIlroy for most on TOUR.

Genesis Scottish Open champion Xander Schauffele posted a 3-under 69 in bid to become the first player since McIlroy in 2014 to follow a win on the PGA TOUR with a Major championship victory the following week.
Collin Morikawa opened with an even-par 72 in bid to become the first player to successfully defend at The Open since Padraig Harrington in 2008.
Making his 90th Major championship start, Tiger Woods (T146) opened with a 6-over 78, equaling his highest opening-round score in 22 starts at The Open (2019/Portrush).
With a 5-under 67, Cameron Smith (T3) equalled his best opening-round score in 25 Major championship appearances; the only player to win THE PLAYERS Championship and The Open Championship in the same year is Jack Nicklaus (1978).

Robert Dinwiddie (T3) recorded a 5-under 67, his first par-or-better score in three Open Championship starts.
World No. 1 and FedExCup leader Scottie Scheffler (T5) opened with a 4-under 68, marking the 15th time in the last 18 Major championship rounds he has been inside the top 10 on the leaderboard. He is attempting to join 10 players (17 instances) who have won five or more times in a season with multiple Majors (most recently Jordan Spieth in 2014-15).

Barclay Brown (T5) recorded a 4-under 68 to become the first amateur inside the top five on the leaderboard after Round 1 at The Open since Tom Lewis in 2011 (T1).
Viktor Hovland (T5) was the only player to birdie the final three holes in the first round, posting a 4-under 68.
St. Andrews is hosting the 150th edition of the Open Championship, marking the 30th time it has been contested at The Old Course.
