It was a record-setting performance this week. The man at the top at the end, Cameron Smith. This was wonderful theater to watch at home. What was it like being involved in this here on this final day?
Cameron Smith: Mate, it was intense. Jonny (Rahm) and I played well the whole day. We had Matty (Jones) in the group in front lighting it up as well. So, yeah, unreal round, something I’ll never forget for sure.

What were the emotions like coming down the stretch just trying to hang on and get to the finish?
Smith: Yeah, I mean, I was just trying to hit one shot at a time. I know that sounds cliché. We spoke about it earlier in the day. We wanted to get to 35-under. We missed it by one. So, I mean, in that sense, disappointing but it’s great to come away with the W.

Moving forward what does this mean to you, back-to-back days with world No. 1, met every challenge and was one better in the end?
Smith: Yeah, I mean, it’s, that’s just where my golf game’s at the moment. I feel like I had a really good rest. I didn’t play much in the fall and I actually did some work on my swing and it came out.

Are you going to get yourself anything as a reward for winning?
Smith: I don’t know. I’ll have to sleep on that one, to be honest. I mean, I’m quite content with where I’m at. I know mom’s car’s probably getting four or five years old, so maybe a new car for mom.

What about this victory feels different from the other three on the PGA Tour?
Smith: I guess all the guys are here that have won the year prior. They have all had a really good season, and they all know how to win. So to be able to win against the winners, I guess, is really cool. I’ll definitely draw a lot of confidence off that, yeah.

What about Hawaii makes Aussies play so well there?
Smith: I don’t know. I think there’s a lot that reminds us of home. Obviously the mountains. The grass we play off is very similar to where I grew up, maybe not a couple of other guys. But I think Aussies play well when we’re relaxed, and we’re all relaxed here in Hawaii. Everyone is.
