Adam Hadwin’s route, Qualifying to atop US Open leaderboard

Adam Hadwin (1st/-4) shot a career-low score in a Major championship at the US Open (63rd career round in Majors; seventh score in the 60s).

Second career 18-hole lead/co-lead on PGA TOUR and second of the season (Valspar Championship; finished T7). First lead/co-lead after any round in a Major.

Hadwin is the 10th player with multiple 18-hole leads/co-leads this season (others: Patrick Cantlay, Tom Hoge, Kurt Kitayama, K.H. Lee, Luke List, Rory McIlroy, Sebastian Munoz, Cameron Smith, Cameron Young).

His previous-best 18-hole position in a Major championship: T4, 2018 Masters Tournament (finished T24).

He earned a spot in the U.S. Open via Final Qualifying at the Dallas, Texas site. No top-10s in 19 previous starts in Majors (best: T24/2018 Masters).

This is the second time in the last three rounds at the U.S. Open that a player representing Canada holds at least a share of the lead (Mackenzie Hughes was T1 after the third round in 2021; finished T15).

Rory McIlroy (T2/-3) successfully defended his title at last week’s RBC Canadian Open, earning his 21st PGA TOUR title and moving to T31 on the all-time TOUR wins list.

McIlroy was also the last player to win on TOUR and win a Major the following week at the 2014 (WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, PGA Championship).

No player since WWII has won the U.S. Open after winning on TOUR the week before.

Defending champion Jon Rahm (T14) recorded a 1-under 69. The last player to successfully defend title in a Major championship was Brooks Koepka, 2019 PGA Championship.

2022 PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas (T14) carded a 1-under 69; the last player to win back-to-back majors: Jordan Spieth, 2015 Masters Tournament and 2015 U.S. Open.

World No. 1 and FedExCup leader Scottie Scheffler (T26) opened with an even-par 70. Scheffler finished T7 at the 2021 U.S. Open and is making his fifth appearance at the event.
