The 29-year-old made history at last week’s Women’s Australian Open as she became the first Aussie since Karrie Webb in 2014 to claim her home open.

Green carded a final round 70 (-2) in Adelaide to see off France’s Agathe Laisne and compatriot Cassie Porter by a single shot on 11-under par.

The victory was the Australian’s first on the LET and one which helped her climb two spots in the Rolex Rankings to World No 7.

“I think it’s still slowly sinking in,” Green said. “I got on a plane Sunday night to come here to Brisbane and travel down to the Gold Coast, so it’s kind of been a very quick celebration and I feel like I still have work to do this week. But I actually got to have the mini replica given to me that Sunday afternoon, so that was really cool. It’s just really amazing to finally have an Australian name back with that trophy.”

The triumph followed a seventh win on the LPGA for Green in Singapore a fortnight prior, with the Aussie now gunning for a hat-trick as she tees up on the Ladies European Tour (LET) again at Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club.

“Now that I have an Australian Open under my belt, this is another trophy that I think is going to be a really big thing,” Green said. “I hope that I can have this in my hands and be back here on Sunday afternoon, but I just have to play four solid rounds of golf. We’ve got a lot of great players in this field that are obviously trying to get this trophy as well. So hopefully there’s not too much pressure on myself.

“The last three weeks, it’s been probably the best I have played in such a small amount of time. I think the course is looking really great. It’s my first time to Sanctuary Cove and hopefully we can get some good weather for the next four days, but I’m really looking forward to playing.

“My best friend Su Oh is also on the trophy. We were joking around and saying has she technically had won it for the last four years, since the last time. But yeah, very special to have a trophy under Webby’s (Karrie Webb) name. She does so much for Australian golf and pretty much all of us that are on the LPGA and LET have been able to go through her program. It’s an honour to have her name on something.”

As this this week, the second edition of the Australian WPGA Championship, Green will tee up in rounds one and two alongside close friends Stephanie Kyriacou, a two-time winner on the LET, and New Zealand’s Amelia Garvey. The trio get underway at 7:05am on Thursday with Green expecting an entertaining couple of days.

“I think there will be a lot [of banter]”, the Major winner said. “I actually said this morning, ‘I don’t think there’s any TV the first two rounds, which is good because there could be a hot mic between the three of us’.

“But no, it’s good fun. Garvs is also a good friend of ours, so it should be a lot of banter on the course. Steph has probably not played the golf that she wanted to last week, so I think it’ll be helpful to have two of her good friends with her out on the fairways. I’m sure there’ll be a couple of birdie bets, maybe even some par bets this week, but it should be good fun.”
