Anirban Lahiri has squeezed into the main drawn of The Players Championship. The Indian pro got the call for being the first alternate for PGA Tour’s flagship event as former World No. 1 Brooks Koepka pulled out due to an injury.

Koepka, who was having neck niggles, has also been having knee problems.

Lahiri has not won an tour event since the 2015 Hero Indian Open. He has had a mixed season so far in 2021.

He did not have much luck at the Players, where he missed the cut first three times and last time in 2019.

When the 2020 edition was cancelled after the first round due to the Covid-19 outbreak, he did make the 36-hole cut but fell at the 54-hole cut, which is put in practice when more than 78 players make the second round cut.

This season, Lahiri made the cut at the Sony Open and was T-62 and then T-39 at Puerto Rico. In between he missed cuts at The American Express and Farmers Insurance and last week he missed the cut at Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Overall in the 2021 season, which began late last year, Lahiri has played nine events in the 2021 PGA Tour season with his best result being a tied sixth finish at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship in September last year.
