Matt Fitzpatrick and Michael Thorbjornsen shared the lead after a weather-interrupted third day of the Genesis Scottish Open.

It was a foggy start to the day at The Renaissance Club, with a sea haar lingering over the course from the early tee times, which then led to a delay of nearly two-and-a-half-hours as morning turned to afternoon.

That meant the overnight leaders would not get under way until after 6.00pm and when they did, it was soon all change at the top of the leaderboard.

At one point there was a five-way tie at the top but two quickfire birdies from Fitzpatrick moved him to 12 under before he dropped a shot on the eighth, which would be his final hole of the day before the hooter sounded.

That left the Englishman alongside American Thorbjornsen, who was bogey-free with five birdies through 13 holes.

Johnny Keefer was the clubhouse leader at ten under, alongside fellow Americans Wyndham Clark, Chris Gotterup and Kevin Roy, Australian Min Woo Lee and English overnight co-leader Jordan Smith, who all had holes still to complete.

Play will resume at 07:00am on Sunday morning for the completion of the third round, with the final round set to begin no earlier than 10:15am, with a one-tee start in three balls.

Player quotes

Michael Thorbjornsen: Might have expected a little bit just in the mornings, but I didn’t know that fog was this much in play throughout the whole day.  Yeah, this is crazy. I’ve never seen anything like this.

It wasn’t too bad. A couple holes early on, four on the water, made things a little difficult and a little harder to commit to certain lines. But kind of toward the end of the round, the last three holes, I mean, you hit drivers up in the air and you kind of lose it just before it reaches the apex and you just kind of trust yourself that you hit some good shots. Yeah, it was tough. But for the most part it was okay.

Same attitude you come in with every single day. Main priority now is trying to get some rest. It’s almost 9.00 here, and I think we are restarting at 7.00. It’s going to be a very quick turnaround and another quick turnaround tomorrow morning or early afternoon.
