McIlroy, Lowry keep feet on the gas in Zurich Classic of New Orleans

Rory McIlroy/Shane Lowry (T1/-13), the 18-hole co-leaders at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, birdie two of their final three holes (Nos. 7 and 8) for a 70 in Foursomes.

Two of McIlroy’s 24 PGA TOUR titles have come in his tournament debut (2010 Wells Fargo Championship, 2019 RBC Canadian Open).

Lowry seeks his third top-10 finish in his last six starts on TOUR (T4/Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, 3rd/Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard).

In search of their first PGA TOUR titles, Davis Thompson/Andrew Novak (T1/-13), post 69 in Foursomes; would join Nick Hardy and Davis Riley (2023) as teammates to make the Zurich Classic of New Orleans their first PGA TOUR title.

Novak enters the week with three top-10 finishes in his first 10 starts this season, including T8 results at the WM Phoenix Open and Mexico Open at Vidanta.

Thompson’s best finish in 11 starts this season entering the week: T15/WM Phoenix Open.

Playing together as a team for the second time, Ryan Brehm/Mark Hubbard (T1/-13) each posted their best finish at the event as teammates in 2022 (T14).

Hubbard enters the week with one top-10 in 11 starts this season: T4/2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am; T2 at the 2019 Texas Children’s Houston Open is his best finish in 212 starts while  Brehm has one win (2022 Puerto Rico Open) in 129 starts.

Playing together as a team for the third time (T4/2022, T13/2023), first career 36-hole lead/co-lead on TOUR for both players; Aaron Rai/David Lipsky (T1/-13) sat T2 through 36 holes at the 2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans (T4).

Seek to join Nick Hardy and Davis Riley (2023) as teammates to make the Zurich Classic of New Orleans their first PGA TOUR title.

Patrick Cantlay/Xander Schauffele (T5/-12) were 6-under on their round through 17 holes before finishing with bogey on the par-5 18th for a 5-under 67, the low round of the day in Foursomes; the only pair in the field ranked inside the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking entering the week (Schauffele/No. 5, Cantlay/No. 8)
