Patrick Cantlay‘s (T1/65) first-round 65 marks his third score of 69 or better in the first round of a Major championship (68/2018 PGA/Finished T27; 69/2019 PGA/Finished T3); previous best first-round score in a U.S. Open: 70/2021/Finished T15.

Sixth 18-hole lead/co-lead in standard, individual stroke-play events on TOUR; 0-for-5 converting the victory (most recent: 2024 The Genesis Invitational/T4); first time holding at least a share of the lead after any round in a Major.

Low amateur at the 2011 U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club (T21); three players since 2015 have won the U.S. Open after previously earning Low Amateur honors:
2015: Jordan Spieth (2012 Low Amateur)
2021: Jon Rahm (2016 Low Amateur)

Twenty-third time holding the 18-hole lead/co-lead in an individual stroke-play event on TOUR and 3-for-22 converting the victory, two of which coming in majors (2011 U.S. Open, 2012 BMW Championship, 2014 Open Championship).

2011 champion and 2023 runner-up has finished inside the top 10 in five consecutive U.S. Open appearances.
