JT Poston adds name to wire-to-wire victors at John Deere Classic

JT Poston (Winner/-21) won his second career PGA TOUR victory in his 155th start (2019 Wyndham Championship) at the John Deere Classic.

He collected 500 points and moves from No. 66 to No. 22 in the FedExCup standings.

He is the third wire-to-wire victor in tournament history and first since David Frost in 1992, and the second wire-to-wire winner on TOUR this season (Joaquin Niemann/The Genesis Invitational).

Poston becomes the 15th player to convert a 54-hole lead/co-lead on TOUR into victory this season and third in as many weeks (Matt Fitzpatrick/U.S. Open, Xander Schauffele/Travelers Championship).

With the win and a T2 at last week’s Travelers Championship, Poston becomes the first player to finish runner-up and win the following week since Dustin Johnson in 2020 (T2/Houston Open, Won/Masters Tournament).

Additional highlights this week include matching his lowest 18-hole score on TOUR with a 62 in round one (R1/2019 Barbasol Championship/T29, R4/2019 Wyndham Championship/Won, R1/2022 Travelers Championship/T2).

Poston won in his fifth John Deere Classic appearance and marked the first event top-10 (previous best: T64/2017).

This is his fourth top-10 in 24 starts this season: T3/RBC Heritage, T9/Wells Fargo Championship, T2/Travelers Championship Open Qualifying Series (OQS).

The top three players not otherwise exempt in the top 10 and ties qualified for the 150th Open Championship, Poston, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Emiliano Grillo (both T2) received the exemptions.

Making his John Deere Classic debut, Bezuidenhout (T2/-18) posted a bogey-free final round 5-under 66 to finish runner-up with a career-best finish on TOUR (previous: 7th/Arnold Palmer Invitational.

In search of his second PGA TOUR victory and first since the 2015 Fortinet Championship, Grillo (T2/-18) earned his sixth career runner-up on TOUR and first since T2 at 2021 RBC Heritage.

2018 University of Illinois Graduate and PGA TOUR rookie Nick Hardy (T30/-10) recorded the low round of the day with a 7-under 64. He was making his third tournament start (T55/2017, T43/2018, T30/2022).

Kevin Streelman (T41/-9) made a hole-in-one at No. 12, a 189-yard par-3 for his second ace on TOUR and first since the 2008 AT&T Byron Nelson.

In his 20th consecutive start in the John Deere Classic, 2012 champion and John Deere Classic Board member Zach Johnson finished T60 at 5-under 279.
