Jon Rahm led THE NORTHERN TRUST by a shot after recording the second-lowest 36-hole total of his PGA TOUR career (130).

Tony Finau tied his career-best 36-hole total at 131, sat in solo-second.

Rahm holds his fifth career 36-hole lead/co-lead on PGA Tour; 0-for-4 to date converting to victory, with a T3 at the 2016 Quicken Loans National as his best finish (forced to WD from the 2021 Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide after 54 holes).

He recorded 12 birdies against zero bogeys through 36 holes to become the 13th player to play the first 36 holes of a FedExCup Playoffs event without a bogey.

Rahm’s last three starts on Tour: WD/the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday (led by six strokes after 54 holes and was forced to withdraw), Won/U.S. Open, T3/The Open Championship.

The six-time Tour winner has one career win in the FedExCup Playoffs (2020 BMW Championship). He leads the PGA Tour in top-10 finishes this season with 12.

Finau tied his career-best 36-hole total on Tour at 131; recorded four times prior, the last coming at the 2020 3M Open (T3).

He has one career win on the PGA Tour (2016 Puerto Rico Open) while amassing eight runner-up finishes, including two during the 2020-21 season (Farmers Insurance Open, The Genesis Invitational); making his 143rd start since the win in Puerto Rico.

He entered the week with seven top-10 finishes this season, but none in his last seven starts dating back to a T8 at the PGA Championship in May.

Finau has one top-10 finish in six career starts at THE NORTHERN TRUST, finishing runner-up to Bryson DeChambeau at the 2018 event (Ridgewood C.C.).

Has advanced to the TOUR Championship each of the last five seasons, recording a career-best sixth-place finish in the 2018 FedExCup.

First-round co-leader Justin Thomas (T3) recorded four bogeys in his first eight holes before closing in 5-under 31 for a second-round 69. It marked the fourth time he shot par or better in his Tour career after playing his first nine holes in 3-over or worse.

The 2017 FedExCup champion owns two career wins in the FedExCup Playoffs (2017 Dell Technoloies Championship, 2019 BMW Championship).
