Bogey-free Russell Henley a lone ranger at Mayakoba

Since the start of the 2020-21 season, there have been seven opening 36-hole scores of 126 or better on PGA TOUR. Russell Henley has recorded three of them.

Making his fifth consecutive start at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba, Russell Henley (1st/-16) opened with a matching bogey-free 8-under 63s; only player in the field bogey-free through 36 holes.

He set the tournament’s opening 36-hole score of 16-under 126; previously 14-under 128, set by Matt Kuchar in 2018.

He hit 12-of-14 fairways in both rounds and leads the scrambling category at a perfect 9-for-9.

His best finish in four previous starts in the event was T29 in his first start of 2018. He
comes off a 2021-22 TOUR season highlighted by four top-10 finishes in 22 starts; best: P2/Sony Open in Hawaii.

A three-time winner on TOUR, he seeks his first victory since the 2017 Cadence Bank Houston Open.

After matching his career low round on PGA TOUR with a 62 in round one, 18-hole leader Will Gordon (T2/-13) followed with a 4-under 67 in Round Two.

He is making third start at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba (T55/2019, MC/2020); seeks first TOUR title in his 48th TOUR start; best finish: T3/2020 Travelers Championship.

Following his opening-round 7-under 64, Sam Ryder (T2/-13) birded seven of his first nine holes (Nos. 1,2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9) en route a 6-under 65; making his sixth start at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba (best result: 54th/2018).

2017 World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba champion Patton Kizzire (4th/-12) opened with matching 6-under 65s in bid for a third PGA TOUR title and first since the 2018 Sony Open in Hawaii.

Brian Harman (T6/-10) aced the par-3 fourth hole from 113 yards (pitching wedge), which he followed with three consecutive birdies on Nos. 5-7 en route a 5-under 66.

Playing this week on a sponsor exemption, Harry Higgs (T6/-10) tied his career-low score on the PGA TOUR with a bogey-free 9-under 62 (R2/2020 Fortinet Championship). His round included seven birdies and an eagle-2 at the par-4 third hole from 86 yards (lob wedge).

En route a 4-under 67, Greyson Sigg (T9/-9) made no pars on his first 10 holes and just three total (Nos. 11, 14, 18); eight birdies, six bogeys and an eagle at the par-5 seventh.

World No. 9 Collin Morikawa (T14/-8) followed an even-par 71 in round one with a bogey-free 8-under 63, one stroke shy of his career-low on the PGA TOUR; this week marks his first start in the event.
