Tony Finau on the cusp of back-to-back wins at Rocket Mortgage Classic

At 21-under 195, Tony Finau and PGA TOUR rookie Taylor Pendrith share the 54-hole lead at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Finau, winner of last week’s 3M Open, is seeking to become the first player to win in back-to-back weeks during the FedExCup Regular Season since Brendon Todd in 2019; he is the only player bogey-free through 54 holes.

Finau’s career-low opening 54-hole score (195); previous: 197 (2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open, lost in a playoff to Webb Simpson).

Holds the 54-hole lead/co-lead for the sixth time on TOUR; 0-for-5 to date (5th/2018 U.S. Open, P2/2018 WGC-HSBC Champions, P2/2020 WM Phoenix Open, 4th/2021 American Express, 2nd/2022 RBC Canadian Open).

Two players have won in back-to-back starts this season (Xander Schauffele/Travelers Championship/Genesis Scottish Open, Scottie Scheffler/World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play/Masters Tournament).

Last player to win back-to-back tournaments on TOUR: Patrick Cantlay in 2021 (BMW Championship, TOUR Championship).

Finau hit a career-high 50 greens in regulation through 54 holes (previous: 47, 2018 BMW Championship, 2019 Shriners Children’s Open).

Carded two bogeys in his last 125 holes on TOUR and is 39-under during that stretch.

Pendrith (T1/-21) is one of three TOUR rookies positioned T7 or better; others: Cameron Young/3rd, Taylor Moore/T7.

Recorded a career-low opening 54-hole score (195); previous: 196, 2021 Butterfield Bermuda Championship (finished T5).

Holds the 54-hole lead/co-lead for the second time on TOUR; led at this season’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship after the second (by one stroke) and third rounds (by three strokes) before finishing T5 (lone career top-10 on TOUR).

One day after tying the tournament record with a 9-under 63, Cameron Young (3rd/-17) carded a 7-under 65 and trails Finau and Pendrith by four strokes; has four runner-up and two T3 finishes in 21 prior starts this season.
