Will Gordon on track in his quest for first on PGA Tour

Will Gordan (1st/-9) holds second 18-hole lead/co-lead of his career (2022 Sanderson Farms Championship/T30) at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba.

He matches his career low round on PGA TOUR with a 62 (2020 Travelers Championship/R2/T3).

Gordon fell one-stroke shy of the 18-hole scoring tournament record of 10-under 61 (Matthew Wolff/2021/R1, Roland Thatcher/2008/R3).

He is making third start at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba (T55/2019, MC/2020).

Gordon is seeking his first career PGA TOUR title in his 48th TOUR start; his best career PGA TOUR finish is T3/2020 Travelers Championship.

He did not make a start on TOUR in the 2021-22 season and returned to the TOUR this season by virtue of the Top 50 from the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour, highlighted with a victory at the 2022 Albertsons Boise Open presented by Chevron.

Making his fifth consecutive start at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba, Russell Henley (2nd/-8) recorded his career-low score in 13 rounds at the El CamaleĆ³n Golf Course (previous: 65/R1/2021/T56).

World No. 2 and reigning PGA TOUR Player of the Year Scottie Scheffler (T7) opened with a 6-under 65 and has one top 10 in two starts at the event (4th/2021). He will return to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking with a win or solo-second this week.

Playing in the same group with Scheffler, two-time defending champion Viktor Hovland (T7) carded a 6-under 65, two strokes better than his opening score in his two wins at the event (67/2020, 2021).

The last player to record three straight wins at the same PGA TOUR event are Steve Stricker, John Deere Classic (2009, 2010, 2011).

The winner of last week’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship, Seamus Power (T28) opened with a 4-under 67 in his fifth tournament appearance (best: T11/2021).

The the last player to win back-to-back weeks on the TOUR schedule is Tony Finau (3M Open, Rocket Mortgage Classic in 2022).
