Will Zalatoris (-15)  earned his first career PGA TOUR win in his 56th start and moved to No. 1 in the FedExCup.

He became the second player to make a FedExCup Playoffs event his maiden TOUR title.

Zalatoris won on the third sudden-death hole at the FedEx St Jude Championship, becoming the first player since 2011 to win with a bogey.

In his first playoff on TOUR, Sepp Straka finished runner-up for his fourth top-10 of the season, moving to No. 8 in the FedExCup. He has never made it past the first FedExCup Playoffs event in three previous seasons; missed six straight cuts entering the week; reaches four top-10s on a season for the first time in his career; was seeking to
become the ninth multiple winner this season.

This marked the eighth playoff this season and first since the Charles Schwab Challenge; fifth playoff at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in the FedExCup era (2007-present).

Zalatoris won first career TOUR win at the age of 25 years, 11 months, 29 days in first FedExCup Playoffs appearance; becomes the second player to win a FedExCup Playoffs event in first Playoffs appearance (other: Xander Schauffele, 2017 TOUR Championship).

Moved to 1-2 in playoff appearances on TOUR; among three runner-ups this season, lost in playoffs at the Farmers Insurance Open and PGA Championship; is one of two players with multiple playoff losses in 2021-22 (other: Patrick Cantlay, WM Phoenix Open, RBC Heritage).

First player to make the FedEx St. Jude Championship (FedExCup-era) his maiden PGA TOUR win.

Second player to win first TOUR title in a FedExCup Playoffs event (other: Camilo Villegas, 2008 BMW Championship); Villegas went on to win the TOUR Championship in his next start.

In previous start at TPC Southwind, finished T8 at the 2021 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational after rounds of 66-66-67-69.

Ninth top-10 of the season, second-most of any player (10, Patrick Cantlay, Matt Fitzpatrick).

Reigning Arnold Palmer Award winner for PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year, was not eligible for the FedExCup Playoffs in 2020-21; joined the PGA TOUR as a Special Temporary Member and collected enough non-member FedExCup points to earn full-time membership for the 2021-22 season (only a win would have made him eligible for the Playoffs).

Prior to the start of the final round, Cameron Smith (T13) was assessed a two-stroke penalty for a breach of Rule 14.7 (playing ball from the wrong place) on Hole No. 4 during the third round as he was operating under Rule 17.1 (when ball is in penalty area).

Smith’s score was adjusted from 199 (-11) to 201 (-9). Smith finished T13 in his first start since winning The Open Championship, his third win of the season.
