Wyndham Clarke approaches Wells Fargo finale with bated anticipation

Wyndham Clark (1st/-16) has a second 54-hole lead/co-lead on the PGA TOUR (other: 2019 Honda Classic); led by one and carded a 2-over 72 to finish T7.

He posted eight birdies (two shy of personal record) against no bogeys for low round of the Well Fargo Championship and low round of the season (previous: 64/R3/The American Express).

The 197 marked the second-lowest 54-hole total on TOUR (low: 195/2020 Shriners Children’s Open).

Has held a share of the 36-hole lead with Tyrrell Hatton (T3) and Nate Lashley (T9).

Recorded the 34th round in the 60s on the season, tied for most among players on TOUR (others: Andrew Putnam, Patrick Rodgers).

In search of his first PGA TOUR win; players to make the Wells Fargo Championship their maiden TOUR title: Anthony Kim (2008), Rory McIlroy (2010), Rickie Fowler (2012), Derek Ernst (2013) and Max Homa (2019).

Clark has a career-best five top-10s on the season, highlighted by three top-six finishes in his last five starts (3rd/Zurich Classic of New Orleans with partner Beau Hossler, 5th/Valspar Championship, 6th/Corales Puntacana Championship).

The 199 marked the lowest 54-hole tournament total since the 2022 Travelers Championship (193/Won).

The seven-time PGA TOUR winner is in search of first win of the season; won three times in 2021-22 season (2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans with partner Patrick Cantlay, Travelers Championship, Genesis Scottish Open).

The five of his seven wins were in come-from-behind fashion; held the outright 54-hole lead in his last two wins (2022 Travelers Championship, 2022 Genesis Scottish Open).

Has seven top-10s on the season, including his last four starts (WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play/T5, Masters Tournament/T10, RBC Heritage/4, Zurich Classic of New Orleans/T4); only Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler have more (8).

Is making his fourth start in the Wells Fargo Championship (T24/2017, T72/2018, T14/2021); in 12 rounds prior to the start of the week, had two rounds in the 60s; missed the cut at the 2017 PGA Championship held at Quail Hollow.

Adam Scott (T3) seeks his first top-10 in ninth start of the season (best finish this season: T21/Sony Open in Hawaii); making his 11th start in the event where he has two top-10s (3rd/2006, T8/2008).

Tyrrell Hatton (T3) and Tommy Fleetwood (T5) each seek to become the fourth player from England to win on TOUR this season, which would set the record for most English winners in a single TOUR season: Justin Rose/AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Matt Wallace/Corales Puntacana Championship, Matt Fitzpatrick/RBC Heritage.

Defending champion Max Homa (T9) sits eight shots off the lead; no player has every successfully defended the event.
