Hard work, talent have of course been the pillars of Yuvraj Sandhu’s charge on the PGTI. There is another aspect that needs to be nurtured all the time, and that is reassurance as he steps up on bigger stages with weeks like the Hero Indian Open.
The family and friends like Azaad Sandhu are a major source of comfort that Yuvraj is on the right track. The other channel is the manner in which Yuvraj has come from behind to win several times on the home tour in the recent past.

This year is a far cry from the Yuvraj of 2017 who teed off in the national Open as the country’s No 1 amateur. Steeled by the rigours of the pro tour, Yuvraj is “more prepared” this time after being in the clutch a number of times, and emerging on top.

But such is the DLF Golf & Country Club that even under-par rounds — Yuvraj shot a 1-under 71 on Friday to back a 70 for a T8, can leave one in doubt.
Amid the breaking down of the day’s numbers, the silver lining was DP World Tour veteran Niklas Lemke’s words on the final green. Impressed by Yuvraj’s craft, Lemke said, “Play well this weekend.”
Coming from a man who ranked behind Phil Mickelson and Paul Casey in stroke average at the Arizona University, the pep talk will stay with Yuvraj for a long time.
