But for rain playing at the Forest Hill Golf & Country Club on Sunday, Samar Baijal could have rewritten a few records on the Indian Golf Union’s junior circuit.

Competing in ‘D’ Boys in Event 8 of the North Zone Sub-Junior and Junior Feeder Tour, organised by Ace Golf, over the weekend in Mohali, Samar scorched the par-66 course with an astounding 7-under 59 on Saturday. The scorecard made for impressive reading with birdies on Holes 3, 4, 7, 8, 11 and 12. The highlight was the eagle on the par-4 16th, which set him up for the closing birdie.
It was an under-par show by others in the group too with second-placed Jot Sarup Gupta shooting a 4-under 62 and Shan Alvi with a 2-under 64.
Returning on Sunday, Samar was 3-under over six holes when sharp showers washed out the final round.
In ‘D’ Girls, Aaradhya Rawat was level-par on Saturday, and that was enough to give her the top spot. Aarushi Sharma carded with a 76, and was followed by Vidushi Singh.
The ‘C’ Boys and Girls too bore the wrath of nature, and could not complete their round on Sunday.
The scores were low on Saturday with Saurav Rawat carding 1-over 67 to emerge ahead of Aadyot Gupta (72) and Manavendra Singh Negi (73).
Deepika Tomar was the top among girls in the section, and was followed by Stuti Pankaj and Ojaswini Mahajan.
Despite the uncertain weather, Category ‘A’ was able to put together two rounds. Shooting scores of 75 and 72 for a total of 147, Pawan Pratap Dhani Ram ran away with the top honours. Anay Bhattacharya totalled 154 (77, 77) to tie for the second spot with Vivaan Monga (71, 83).
In ‘B’ Boys, Samriddh Chand Thakur (132) won with scores of 63, 69 to win by 13 shots over Sakshity Pureandre 145 (75, 70). Madhav Sobti finished third with 151 (72, 79).
Girls in the ‘A’ and ‘B’ Categories could not complete their round on Sunday, and winners were declared based on the opening day’s performance.
Parisa Monga won with a card of 72, beating Laavaanyaa Mahajan and Raza Kaur by five shots.
Out for a taste of competition, Category ‘E’ was lucky to put together two rounds of 9 holes each. In boys, Taanush Kumar shot 30 and 33 to total 63, and win by four shots over Zorawar Chahal 67 (34, 33). Tansh Bansal and Aarav Kumar tied for third at 68.
Among girls, Naaysha Sinha shot 70 over two days (34, 36) to win by three shots over Aarshiya Hooda 73 (36, 37). Aahana Shrivastava was the next best name.
The enthusiasm was infectious in Category ‘F’, and the scores really didn’t matter. Among boys, Aprateem, Gurbaaz Singh and Kairav Gupta were the top names, while Manasvi Kanwar, Devyani Dhull and Zainab Mann Dandyan made up the three-player field in girls.
