Learning never stops in golf. Gaurika Bishnoi was always aware, but after a varied 2021 season, which got her to experience both ends of the spectrum, she stands wiser. A patchy run at home on the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI) to some more yo-yo form amidst experiencing breathtaking scenic beauty in Europe, Gaurika’s words are backed by conviction.
“Every week taught me new things, and it is easier to put together the pieces (learnings). I am excited to implement them now,” she said ahead of the new season on WGAI which gets underway in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Getting ahead of herself in the quest of a strong finish on the Ladies European Tour’s week in Spain and getting chastened, to fighting tooth and nail till the last to pull off a career best on the Tour’s Access Series in Switzerland, all have been part of the learning curve.
Among the other lessons, the two weeks of serenity and some good golf in the lap of the Swiss Alps left her alive to the fact that “you have to love the sport more than performance”.
The struggles were also about a fire burning strong, which left Gaurika in a quandary on the route to take. Winless since 2019, the hunger to break the dry run gets stronger by the day but Spain reaffirmed that following the process was the way to go rather than getting result oriented. Taking the prescribed path may not always yield the desired result but the bottom-line stays unchanged, “taking one day at a time”.
The third wave of the pandemic in January allowed more scope for introspection with events being put on hold. Coming out of the phase, the thinking was clearer. The hunger has to be channeled in a way that it becomes a strength rather than “clouding judgement”, and this Gaurika hopes will stand her in good stead.
