After Kartik Sharma finished Day 1 of the Tata Steel Tour Championship at 6-under 66, there was nothing on the man that gave the impression that it was a good start to the week.

But then, that’s the way Kartik is, the calm surface a perfect camouflage to what makes him.

There was one insight though, the tattoo of a tiger with a clock. Unlike the day, which Kartik termed was a grind given that it was tough from tee to green, quite like the season, he was happy to talk about what led him to get inked.

It has to do with his pet dog Simba, who has a close resemblance with the tattoo, and reminds him of her on Tour. As for the clock, it is a celebration of the traveller in the young athlete.

Travel is round the corner when Kartik arrives in Thailand for Asian Tour’s Q-School in January, but right now there is a task on hand, to go much better than last year’s 10th finish in Jamshedpur.
