Abhishek Mitra won the IGU Eastern India Mid-Amateur order of merit for the second successive year.

Lifting the IGU Eastern India’s mid-amateur order of merit for the second consecutive season defines Abhishek Mitra’s career and about beating the odds.

Abhishek summed up the week at the Tour Championship in Tollygunge Club.

“I was 6 strokes behind the leader going into the final day after making birdie on 2nd and 4th holes. I reduced the lead and then made a long par save at the 7th. By the 12th I was tied for lead.

“On the 14th, Rafick birdied to go one ahead. I birdied the 15th to tie again, then par 16th. Rafick made a bogey. On 17th I made a massive drive with 3 wood about 285yrds. Then stuck my 2nd shot 2ft to birdie the hole . Rafick too made birdie.

Abhishek Mitra started the final day six shot off but rallied brilliantly to pull off the win.

“One shot ahead on 18th, my tee off was next to right bunker about couple of yards short of the green. Rafick was left edge of the green. I chipped it within 1ft and Rafick putted to 2ft. He holed out for a par and I had 1ft putt to win the tour championship, which dropped centre cup.”
