Setting goals is one aspect; implementing them under pressure is another.

From the start, Aryan Roopa Anand was driven in a way that helped blur the lines between amateur and pro golf. The thought of “shooting your best score every time you tee up” is what dreams are made of, but successfully pushing yourself under the gun that, “If not (giving it your best), you shouldn’t be teeing up,” tell tales of the backend toil.

Riding this mantra, Aryan can claim success till now. Winning PGTI’s Final Stage Qualifying, the top-10 in his first pro start at the Players Championship at Tollygunge Club balance out the words and deeds.

Perhaps, the biggest vindication lies in wait on Saturday as Aryan goes into the final day of the Gujarat Open five shots off the lead.

Sole third at 7-under, the mind’s not a clean slate, a pleasant departure from the cliché. What’s racing within will be channeled into a strong finish, or who knows even a win, as the rookie repeats what he’s followed since he started playing the pro tour as an amateur.
