Quite like the nature of the sport, the Classic Golf & Country Club can be deceptive. In the backdrop of the Aravallis, the seemingly open fairways can lure players into complacency, and that is when this Jack Nicklaus par-72 design can inflict heavy damage in a way that the scorecards don’t make for good reading.

This factor would have been on the mind while teeing off for Event 6 of the Indian Golf Union’s North Zone Feeder Tour, organised by Ace Golf. It was a mixture of caution and free-flowing golf that reflected in the performance of the gentlemen.

Mayank Oberoi was on the top of his game by shooting scores of 73 and 72 for a total of 145, which allowed him a four-shot win over Ikvir Bhasin 149 (74, 75). Kritansh Kapoor wasn’t far behind, and his two-day total of 151 (75, 76) helped edge out Ankit Mohindra for the third spot by a shot.

Pushpendra Rathore and Anil Rao showed determination can work wonders, and the duo cornered glory in an exclusive category. While Pushpendra totalled 151 (74, 77), Anil had a final score of 171 (83, 88).

Among the ladies, Samaira Tomar rode the momentum of her under-par show on Day 2, a card of one-under 71, which added to her Day 1’s 76 for a total of 147, which was two shots better than Thea Ajomal’s 149 (75, 74). Sarah Solanki finished third with a final effort of 150 (74, 76).
