Pawan Kumar is steadfast despite shooting a 67 and the climb of 14 spots on Day 3 of the IndianOil Servo Masters in Digboi on Friday.

Pawan Kumar has played pro golf long enough to know that the ascent of 14 spots on moving day, courtesy the 5-under 67, can come to naught in no time on Saturday if the head is not in its place.

At T4, Pawan is three off the lead at the IndianOil Servo Masters, a novelty this season on the PGTI, but Pawan capped any bid of the mind to race ahead. Except for the putts rolling in frequently, Friday was like any other day. Or, Pawan ensured that everything else outside the Digboi Golf Links stayed the same.

After submitting the card, it was a quiet departure from the venue, like any other day, followed by some mild banter with friends in the room. Care has been taken that the mind’s a clean slate.

His best result a T8 at the Gujarat Open in February (a result of a final day surge), Pawan knows a strong finish here will set him up for the three big-money events that follow.

“This sport is all about confidence, and a good result here will take the mindset to a different level,” said Pawan.
