Manu Gandas shot a course record of 10-under 60 to take a five-shot lead at the Telengana Golconda Masters.

What is about Day 2 at the Hyderabad Golf Association that spurs Manu Gandas to break away from the field?

First, about the man. Nothing seems to affects Manu; a high or low. “I have no idea,” he said on the 10-under 60 on Thursday of the Telengana Golconda Masters. “I just go out there and it happens.”

Now on to what he pulled off. This will stand as a course record, unlike the 58 he posted last year and the changes in yardage due to heavy rains.

The leaderboard, then and now, Manu is the constant. His runaway effort, which reads 17-under after two days, separates him and the chasing pack by five shots, quite like last year. Credit it to a superlative back-nine, 8-under in 2021, 7-under today. The icing on the cake was a flawless card this time.

Amid the hype, the monk in Manu has a calming effect. “Even after a round like this, nothing changes. The mindset and process is still about going out and getting it done.
