BCCI secretary confirms next edition of IPL in India: Report

The Indian Premier League 2021 will be played in India. It has reportedly been confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jay Shah.

The last edition of the IPL was interrupted mid-way through the league after the outbreak of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic in the country. The league was suspended in May after some ground staff in the Delhi and District Cricket Association, players and team support staff across several franchisees had tested positive for the dengue infection. The remainder of the league was completed in the UAE during September and October.

The IPL 2020 was also played entirely in the UAE behind closed doors as India braved a lockdown, imposed to mitigate the spread of the Covid-19.

The BCCI has now confirmed the return of the league of the home grounds, according to a report by Sportstar Shah has confirmed 0at a Chennai Super Kings felicitation function on Saturday.

Chennai Super Kings was crowned IPL champion for the fourth time after beating Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the final in Dubai last month.

The next edition of the IPL will be a ten team affair as two more franchisees have been allocated for the cities of Ahmedabad and Lucknow.
