South African Cricket may be made to pay for the impact of the Indian Premier League money. A number of the Proteas cricketers are likely to stay out of the Test series in Bangladesh for honouring their IPL contracts. South will be hosting Bangladesh from March 18 with three One Day Internationals preceding the Test series. The first Test is slated from March 31, whereas the IPL gets underway from March 26.
According to an ESPN Cricinfo report, ace players like Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen will opt out of the Bangladesh series to join their respective IPL teams.
Rabada will be plying his trade for the Delhi Capitals, whereas Ngidi will be seen in Punjab Kings colours and Jansen was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the mega auction last month.
However, Delhi might miss the services of Anrich Nortje, who reportedly has fitness issues.
It is reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has influenced Cricket South Africa to secure players’ release for the IPL.
Most of the South African internationals were tipped to skip the IPL first week action for national duty. It seems the lucrative contracts from the cash rich league are compelling the players to pick clubs over the country.
