Delhi Capitals are dealt another severe blow ahead of their Indian Premier League 2021 opener on April 10. Axar Patel will be out of action for at least a fortnight.
The ace all-rounder has tested positive for Covid-19 infection. The covid 19 threat is looming large on the teams schedule to play their opening round games in Mumbai, where eight ground staff at the Wankhede Stadium have also been diagnosed with novel coronavirus infection.

Delhi Capitals, without their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer, have revealed that Patel has been shifted in isolation at a designated medical care centre.
“Delhi Capitals all-rounder Axar Patel has tested positive for COVID-19. He had checked into the team hotel in Mumbai on March 28, 2021, with a negative report,” reads a statement from the franchisee.
“His (Patel’s) report from the second COVID test came positive. He is currently in isolation at a designated medical care facility. The Delhi Capitals medical team is in constant touch with Axar and ensuring his safety and well-being. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
Patel has been in tremendous form during the recently-concluded limited overs home series against England. He is among the most potent weapons for the JSW-GMR co-owned team, eyeing their maiden IPL title.
