Windfall for Neeraj Chopra, other Punjab Olympians at Tokyo

Punjab’s Sports and Youth Services Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi on Tuesday informed that the state government will honour Tokyo Olympics medal winners and participating state players besides gold medallist Neeraj Chopra with the cash awards worth Rs 32.67 crore in a special function to be held in Chandigarh on Thursday, August 12.

As per the details released by the Information and Public Relations Department of Punjab,

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh will honour the players and Governor VP Singh Badnore will grace the occasion.

The Chief Minister increased the cash amounts, and now 11 Punjab players from the Men’s hockey team will get Rs 2.51 crore each.

Gold medallist in javelin Neeraj Chopra will also be awarded with an enhanced cash award of Rs 2.51 crore.

The fourth placed women’s hockey team state players and sixth place holder Kamalpreet Kaur in discus will be honoured with Rs 50 lakh each.
