After holding a share of the 18- and 36-hole lead at Charles Schwab Challenge, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (-11) moved into sole possession of the lead following a 2-under 68; leads by two strokes over Brendon Todd and Scott Stallings.
He is bidding to post the first five-win season on PGA TOUR since Justin Thomas in 2016-17. Scheffler would join Bobby Locke (6 wins, 1947) and Joe Kirkwood Sr. (5 wins, 1923) as players to win their first five PGA TOUR titles in the same season.

Would become just the fourth player (fifth instance) since 1960 with five TOUR wins in a season before the beginning of June (Arnold Palmer/1960/1962, Johnny Miller/1974, Tom Watson/1980).
He is in search of his fifth victory in his last 10 PGA TOUR starts. Played his first 52 holes without a bogey before a 3-putt bogey on the par-4 17th. J.T. Poston (2019 Wyndham Championship) remains the most recent TOUR winner without a bogey over 72 holes.
Scheffler would become the first World No. 1 to win the Charles Schwab Challenge since Adam Scott in 2014.

He is 1-for-3 when holding a 54-hole lead/co-lead on TOUR (won 2022 Masters Tournament). Making his third appearance at the Charles Schwab Challenge (T55/2020, MC/2021).
Prior to this week, the lowest score in six rounds at Charles Schwab Challenge was 2-under 68 (R1/2020).
Brendon Todd (T2) turned in the round of the day with a bogey-free 5-under 65, one shy of his best score in 22 rounds at the Charles Schwab Challenge (64/R2/2021).
