Like a lot of us, Chikkarangappa S has had his share of ups and downs, but it is to his advantage that he has drawn heavily from the lessons and kept reminding himself how unpredictable life can be.

The PGTI Tour Championship win was like raindrops on parched soil, keeping in mind the prolonged dry run, but even in the moment of triumph Chikka did not forget to remind himself of the road he had just traversed.

It was about securing his Asian Tour card for 2023 by a slim margin. Before that, for a significant period Chikka had his back to the wall, and that’s when the athlete in him rose to quell the challenges.

“A win rarely teaches you much, but hardships leave a deep impact,” he said. Chikka often plays his best golf when the chips are down, and the week in Jamshedpur was an example.

Sitting pretty at The DGC Open with a handy 36-hole cushion is also about enjoying the fruits of the win.

The pay cheque from the season-ender is mentioned many times and how it has freed up the mind and even got on board a new sponsor.

Sport anyway is about mind over body and Chikka has shown for two consecutive weeks (International Series Thailand and now at the Delhi Golf Club) what an uncluttered mind can achieve.
