Given his run in junior and amateur golf, Sukhman Singh is an exciting prospect to emerge from Noida, and should he continue at this pace, Sukhman is destined for greater glories on bigger stages.

The Jaypee Wish Town was the scene of Sukhman’s latest feat, working up a thumping 13-shot win in the men’s amateur category of the 3rd Uttar Pradesh Open, presented by Petronet LNG Limited, and organized by the Uttar Pradesh Golf Society.
One of the fastest growing, world-class public limited companies in the Indian energy sector, Petronet LNG Limited’s association with golf bodes well and it is hoped that the current initiative under the company’s CSR programme will go a long way in boosting golf at the grassroot level.
Prolific scoring
Improving all the time under the guidance of his father, Simarjeet Singh, one of the country’s top amateurs for a long time, Sukhman made light of the challenges of the par-70 course by shooting under-par on all three days.
Commencing with a 3-under 67, and repeating the show the following day, Sukhman saved the best for the last. An astounding 9-under 61 was the perfect cap to the week as the teenager closed with a final score of 15-under 195.
Shat Mishra, a regular member of the Indian squad, was the next best name, closing with rounds of 69, 74, 65 for a total of 2-under 208.
The competition was closer in A Boys, and Ranveer Singh Dhupia emerged top with a score that was in sync with the under-par cards this week. With rounds of 70, 65, 71, Ranveer had a final score of 4-under 206. He was followed by Arshvant Srivastava at 1-over 211 (69, 68, 74).
Chaitanya Pandey kept up his winning habit by cornering the top spot in B Boys, rounding off the week with an 8-under 202 (64, 70, 68). Neil Jolly finished six shots back at 2-under 208 with scores of 70, 64, 74.
Among lady amateurs, Jia Kochhar bagged the top spot with a three-day total of 5-over 215 (68, 71, 76) and won by a handsome margin over Ishita 237 (81, 79, 77).
Shreshta Shukla and Gauri Joshi were the best finishers in A Girls with final scores of 7-under 203 (68, 66, 69) and 237 respectively.
B Girls crowned Shambhavi Chaturvedi champion for her under-par show of 9-under 201 (66, 67, 68). She was followed by Rashi at 4-over 214 (66, 74, 74).
Playing a demanding course is always a learning experience, and Aditya Misra would have made himself with the under-par performance, totalling 3-under 137 (71, 66) to top C Boys. Pradhyumna Upadhyaya was second at 153 (81, 72).
Avviraaj Kalia walked away with the top honours in D Boys with a two-day total of 151 (72, 79) and a two-shot margin over Md Rehan at 153 (72, 81).
Among the tiny tots, Vidushi Singh and Anayra Manglik were the top names in E Girls. In boys in the category, Bhavy Rattan came up with a level-par show over 18 holes to top with a 70 (35, 35), a seven-shot cushion over Kabir Kanwar 77 (36, 41).
