Adrian Meronk is a five-time DP World Tour winner after claiming an emotional victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

The Pole signed for a final round 68 to reach 20 under par at St Andrews on Sunday, marking a two-shot win over South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and Denmark’s Niklas Nørgaard in the 25th anniversary of the unique tournament.

The 33-year-old, who last lifted a DP World Tour title at the 2023 Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters 1,078 days ago, began his final round two strokes back of overnight leader Jarvis, but immediately levelled the game with a birdie-birdie start.

Meronk added a further gain at the fifth before another at the ninth, with two important par saves either side of a bogey at the seventh maintaining the belief around the turn. He found a fifth birdie at the 12th to gain the outright lead, picking up another shot two holes later to give himself a handy cushion.

A bogey at his penultimate hole, which reduced the lead to two with one to play, momentarily left the door ajar, but a closing par alongside a bogey from Jarvis in the group behind was enough to secure the win at the same tournament he made his first professional start ten years ago.

Meronk’s victory, which evoked an outpouring of emotion from the Pole, sees him retain his status on the DP World Tour and move to 38th on the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by DP World, up from 141st.

Jarvis, having mixed three birdies with as many bogeys, signed for a final round of 72 to finish at 18 under par for the week, alongside Nørgaard, who carded an eagle, four birdies and a bogey for a closing 67.

Behind him, Scotland’s own Michael Stewart continued his incredible week on home soil by counting a hole out eagle among a final round 66 to end tied for fourth with Tommy Fleetwood, who posted an eight under 64 for the lowest round of the day. Defending champion Robert MacIntyre and American Brooks Koepka finished a further shot back at 16 under par.

Player Quotes

Adrian Meronk: It’s unreal. As I told you before, I never usually cry but this one feels really special. I’m sorry, I’m just lost for words. To win here after ten years, after turning pro, it’s a dream come true, and it’s unusual. I’m sorry, I’m at a loss for words but I’m extremely happy and relieved.

I knew it’s going to be a tough day. We knew the course was going to be very windy. You know, I set up myself mentally yesterday with my psychologist for the day. I knew what to expect. I had a number in my head, what I have to shoot. To be honest I was quite close to that number but yeah, I’m super happy I played really solid golf. Did a great job with my caddie, Stuart. It was quite stressful at times but also fun playing with my partner. He was amazing and we had a lot of fun.

After my drive on 18, I was quite happy with the position I was in. I was just trying to enjoy the walk. It’s an amazing walk when you cross the bridge. You look around, the people, the history. Actually when I was crossing the bridge, I talked to myself. I was actually thinking about Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus walking on the bridge and I was asking for good energy from them. It was just a great feeling. I really enjoyed that.

The goal for the rest of the season was to try to get my status for next year, and that helps me a lot. I’m super happy that I actually got that goal, but I will have to re-evaluate my goals for the rest of the season and see what happens, but I’ll do that tomorrow and then see what happens. I’m super happy and super grateful to be in that position.

I’m not sure. We haven’t talked about it to be honest. We’ll find out, I guess. I’ll have to ask and see what happens. Like I said, it was so much fun. He played great golf, as well. We did a great job as a team. Whenever I struggled, he got my back. It was so much fun and super happy for him.
