Magnus Carlsen has extended his reign as the World Chess Champion by two more years. The Norwegian Grand Master prevailed over Ian Nepomniachtchi with a match score of 7.5 – 3.5 to win his fifth World Championship title.
Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen retained his world chess title today (Friday). The defending champion scored a fourth win over Russian challenger Ian Nepomniachtchi to retain his FIDE World Championship crown.
Carlsen sealed victory by winning the 11th game of the 14-game series in their two-million-euro ($2.3 million) match in Dubai.

“I’m relieved of course,” Carlsen was quoted as saying after the match. “It’s hard to feel that great joy when the situation was so comfortable to begin with, but I’m happy with a very good performance overall.”
Playing with blacks, Carlsen compelled his Russian rival to resign on the 49th move.

Carlsen has been holding the title since beating India’s Vishwanathan Anand in 2013. He would complete a decade as the World Chess Champion at the time of defending his title in 2023.
