Shane Lowry has returned to one of his “favourite places in the world” as he prepares to defend his BMW PGA Championship title.

The Irishman produced a flawless performance in the final round 12 months ago to edge out Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy at Wentworth Club, and he is back in England this week to take on a star-studded field in the fourth Rolex Series event of the 2023 season.

The BMW PGA Championship field boasts all 12 members of the European Ryder Cup Team, as well as Captain Luke Donald and four of his Vice Captains, with Lowry part of the group that arrived at Wentworth Club with springs in their steps after a visit to the venue in Rome where they will take on the United States in two weeks.

Player Quotes

Shane Lowry: I’ve always loved coming here and to come back here as defending champion, it’s a tournament that you always want to win as a European golfer. You know, it’s one that’s kind of on your list at the start of every year that you definitely want to play and in, and you want to try and win. It’s great and I’m looking forward to the week ahead.

It was a good week last week in Ireland and I’m hoping for another good week this week and looking forward to it.

I felt like I got myself in position (last year) and I’ve got what it takes to do it against the best in the world. It was exciting to do that. Had a few of my friends here and I remember we had a great week the last time, and  I always love coming here. It’s one of my favourite places in the world, and last week was an exciting week and I have an exciting month ahead.

I think it was great to get together for the lads (the Ryder Cup trip). Everybody was there, all the players, all the caddies, all the vice captains, and obviously Luke as well, a few staff from the Tour, and we got some very worthwhile stuff done.

It just kind of gets the juices flowing and you kind of need to bring yourself back down-to-earth over these next couple days and get ready to play a tournament before we go there in a couple weeks. We all need to focus on playing well this week and from the start of next week.
