Arjun Prasad is going all out after recovering from the wrist injury that plagued him since October last year.

The road back to some good golf started after the season break in August, and though the numbers are yet to show up, the first sign may have come with the 6-under 66 on Day 1 of the Tata Steel Tour Championship in Jamshedpur on Thursday.

The months spent wading through pain and poor weeks on PGTI, Arjun attributes them to the attempts to protect the tender left wrist, allowed him to introspect and make some changes that are hoped will pay off.

Shifting base from Dwarka to Gurgaon has allowed him more time for practice in nearby golf courses, and setting up a “golf pad”, the apartment Arjun shares with fellow golfers Aman Raj, Aniket Sawant and Samarth Dwivedi is about backing each other and instilling belief when the going’s tough.

The wrist healthy and ready for the rigours of continuous golf, Arjun hasn’t missed cut in eight starts with a best finish of 13th in Jammu.

Two off the lead behind Gaganjeet Bhullar, Arjun finds himself in a spot he hasn’t been in for a while, but he isn’t worried about keeping his place on the leaderboard. Following the process, as he has been doing since September, gives him the confidence that his moment could come this weekend.

Father on the sidelines, Yashas Chandra ready to keep adding birdies

It was a meeting of men, Yashas Chandra and father Sharath, when the former submitted his opening card at the Tata Steel Tour Championship.

A 4-under 68 it was, and emerging from the score recorders, Yashas strode up to shake father’s hand. It isn’t often that Sharath accompanies his son on Tour, and the early parts of Day 1 had them uniting in concern.

Yashas had a shaky start after teeing off at the Golmuri Golf Course, but rallied well on the back-nine at the Beldih Golf Course to be four shots off Gaganjeet Bhullar.

The bonding over the opening day’s action has set up Yashas to go higher on the leaderboard. The setting is ideal as with father taking care of everything else, Yashas can focus on getting more birdies on the scorecard over the next three days.
