As Arjun Prasad gets ready to resume his duties on the Professional Golf Tour of India in early September after Lockdown 2, he would like to pause and reflect again on a critical factor that has got him thus far.
For the 22-year-old, who turned professional in 2017, and has a runner-up finish in Pune among other top-10s, it has been the unflinching support of his parents that has helped him grow in his sphere of influence.

As the 22-year-old stands on the threshold of a breakthrough win on PGTI or maybe even on the Asian Tour, whenever it resumes operations, Arjun paused to acknowledge his pillars of strength and wish many more years to father, Brigadier Nikesh Nandan (retd), who will turn 54 shortly.
“My journey began with a chance trip to the Deolali Golf Course, and curiosity got me glued to the sport. My parents were appreciative and are the most dedicated people I have met. My mother, Dr Nivedita Verma, sacrificed her time off and used to accompany me to the golf course every afternoon with an umbrella in hand. She stood behind me, watching my swing and applauding the shots. No wonder she got nicknamed “lady with an umbrella” in our small town.
“My father won accolades in sports like athletics, cricket and boxing. Golf being slow paced was never on his radar but seeing my love for the game, he picked up the sport too. His goal was to spend time with me on the golf course. His presence and guidance have been the strongest catalysts in my performance at all levels.
“The family’s contribution won’t be complete without mentioning my elder sister Arshita, who despite being an academician was always there for me on the golf course. Though we now stay in different countries, Though now we stay in different countries she still persistently follows my game. I believe that she is my biggest critic and supporter,” said Arjun.
