For Kartik Singh, the 2-under 70 brought back fond memories of a win here in July last year, which allowed him to open his WAGR account.

The Lodhi Course always scores with its iconic setting and unique challenges, and going with it the NCR Cup 11th Junior Golf Tournament, the Delhi Golf Society’s (DGS) latest offering, got off to a rousing start.

The stifling heat was hardly a deterrent as the opening day saw some impressive scores across age categories.

Ragini Navet led the charge in A Girls with a par-72 card for a two-shot lead over Preitisha Gill (74). Anvvi Dahhiya came in next with a day’s 76.

In B Girls, DGS Camp of Excellence student Zara Anand started on an impressive note, the 73 allowing her to tie for the top spot with Ayesha Gupta. Riya Jadon followed three shots back at 76.

Wednesday’s spotlight was firmly on A and B Boys due to the under-par exploits of Krishnav Nikhil Chopraa and Kartik Singh, respectively.

Leader by 5 in A Boys, Krishnav Nikhil Chopraa (69) counted his ball striking among the positives on Day 1 of the NCR Cup 11th Junior Golf Tournament at the Delhi Golf Club.

Krishnav blazed away to a 3-under 69 for a handy five-shot cushion over DGS Camp of Excellence students Rakshit Dahiya, Sukhman Singh and Jai Bahl, all of whom carded 74.

Sharing his thoughts, Krishnav said, “I was off to a slow start, but hit the ball reasonably well. I missed a few short putts here and there but in the end happy with my round in the bare heat.”

For Kartik, the 2-under 70 brought back fond memories of a win here in July last year, which allowed him to open his WAGR account. The key to his success on Day 1 was finding 17 GIR (Greens in Regulation) and that will be a source of inspiration going forward.

At 3-over 75, DGS Camp of Excellence student Ranveer Mitroo and Noida’s Kanav Chauhan come next in B Boys.

Thursday will see the action also commencing at the par-62 Peacock Course with the younger categories teeing off.
