The Indian Golf Union’s Eastern India Amateur Golf Feeder Tour event, The Kolkata Amateur Open, came as a breath of fresh air at the Tollygunge Club.
Staged from September 16-17, there was participation from all parts of the city. After six months of life indoors due to the second wave of the pandemic, golfers teed off high on energy with 57 players across different age groups.
The competition was across five categories — amateur, mid-amateur, senior, super senior, and ladies.

Karan Verma won the amateur category with a card of 66, four shots ahead of Sandeep Yadav. Souvik Nayak, who finished Day 1 as the leader, slipped to tied fifth with a seven-over 77.
In the mid-amateur category, Abhishek Mitra won with a score of two-over 72. Vijay Kumar was the runner-up with 77.

Kuo Thai Chiang’s 81 was good enough for a win in the senior category. Colonel SK Tiwary (retd) was second with 19-over 89 in his final round.
Subroto Kundu won the super senior category with a score of 94 while Colonel Tapash Kumar Ghosh (retd) finished with 95 for the second position.
Shinjini Mukherjee took the winning spot with a score of 75 in the final round among ladies. Karishma Samadder was second with a score of 79.
The next IGU Eastern India Amateur Golf Feeder Tour event, Golftrade Amateur Open, will also be at Tollygunge Club from September 28-29.
