
The results may not reflect the learning, but Arjun Prasad ended 2021 a better golfer.
Among the learnings, a personal loss stood out, and one Arjun is still struggling to come to terms with.
Losing his aunt, whom he looked up to, during a tournament week in Hyderabad was a bolt out of the blue.
Picking himself up, Arjun rushed back and had to compartmentalize his personal and professional life. It wasn’t easy given the memories that came back repeatedly and made him nostalgic, but he still travelled to the next venue and teed off in the space of a few days.

It will be a while before Arjun can reconcile, but it isn’t for nothing that life is termed a lesson.
In golf too, there were opportunities to take ownership, and Arjun stood up to be counted. The instance that comes to mind right away is teeing off in Pune with 15 clubs.

Arjun realised much later into Round 1 that he was carrying two 3 irons, and though he could have got away in the heavy rain with the staff bag all covered up, Arjun chose otherwise. “I would not have been in peace.”

He summoned the referee and invited a four-shot penalty, which only added to a bad day at work. It was to his credit that he came back the next day with the mind a clean slate. Not only did he overturn the deficit, a sublime Day 2 card helped him make cut comfortably.
That was no less than winning the tournament, and Arjun ranks it among his standout moments from the season gone by.
