Hope floats as IGU’s 2025 North Zone Feeder Tour commences

The start of the Indian Golf Union's 2025 season holds an ocean of opportunties for the participants.

The best thing about a fresh season is the infectious energy level that ushers in the new start. The year gone by unfolded in different ways for the players, but the time away from competition allowed time for introspection.

For those who excelled, this is the time to set the bar higher; those found wanting will be eager to correct the past and strive for betterment.

Going with the spirit, Event 1 of the Indian Golf Union’s Sub-Junior and Junior North Zone Feeder Tour, organised by Ace Golf, witnessed those lessons put to use this week.

Despite winning A Boys by two shots, Adhiraaj Singh Gill came away food for thought as finishing with an 89 on the back of a 76 for a total of 165 at the par-72 Panchkula Golf Club requires introspection.

Noordeep Singh (80, 87) and Arindam Sudan (79, 88) were in a tie for second after finishing at 167, but the former scored on his better card on Day 2. Madhav Sobti followed at 170 (85, 85).

Among girls in the category, Amreen Sandhu was the top name, finishing at 157 with rounds of 81 and 76. Precious Bansal 159 (78, 81) and Anushka Singh Malik 176 (81, 95) filled the second and third spots.

The enthusiasm came out best in Category B with the impressive turnout. Zorawar Sandhu was the comfortable winner at 158 following rounds of 81 and 77. Samriddh Chand Thakur trailed by seven shots, and his scores of 82 and 83 tallied to 165. Ranveer Singh Malik finished third, a shot back with rounds of 86 and 80.

Alaina Joshi totalled 173 (86, 87) over two days, but while she will strive for improvement as the season progresses, the effort was enough to give her an emphatic nine-shot win over Daneen Khan at 182. Miraaya Sood came next at 183.

Regular on the circuit, Shan Alvi 159 (80, 79) notched another win with a two-shot win over Saurav Rawat 161 (80, 81) in C Boys. Kabir Sachdev was five shot backs at 166 (82, 84).

Ojaswini Mahajan was the top name in C Girls, courtesy the 170 (82, 88), which gave her a two-shot cushion over Padam Vibhuti (89, 83). Aarushi Sharma completed the podium with an effort of 178 (90, 88).

Ojasv Saraswat was the standout name of the week as he followed up the opening round’s 73 with an under-par 69 to round it off with a 2-under 142. Yashank Setia shone too and made it a close fight by finishing a shot back with rounds of 71 and 72. Rudraj Diwan posted scores of 72 and 73 to finish at 145.

Catch them young is the buzzword as the Indian Golf Union’s Event 1 of the North Zone Sub-Junior and Junior Feeder Tour drew encouraging numbers in the younger age categories in Panchkula.

Unnati Singh 152 (73, 79), Aaradhya Rawat 153 (75, 78) and Gairat Kaur Kahlon 155 (77, 78) collected points on account of their finish among the girls.

The scores in E Boys made for impressive reading as well. Vairajvir Mahajan finished with 72 (36, 38) to eke a one-shot win over Gitansh Singh Pathania 75 (38, 37). Aryaan Mittal rounded it off with an 81 (40, 41) to finish third.

Bhavy Rattan did not make the podium in E Boys, but he drew applause on Day 1 with a Hole-in-One of No 13. He finished with a 91 with rounds of 46 and 45.

In girls, Naaysha Sinha emerged winner by five shots, finishing at 74 (38, 36). Wadaana Khan (40, 39) and Mahira Sharma (39, 40) were in a tie for second at 79.

Category F Boys and Girls saw all the participants collect points with Muskan Chaudhary topping with 91, followed by Snitik Chand Thakur at 92 and Kairav Gupta with 97.
